Garden Consultancy

Rose Foyle‘s passion for gardening and fascination with plants came from a childhood spent in Ireland picking wildflowers and gardening in the presence of inspiring gardeners from her family.

Her greatest challenge was the creation of a garden, building on the existing garden at Carolside where she began to collect Roses nearly 35 years ago, establishing a significant collection of historic roses and The UK National Collection of Gallica roses; which is now also recognised by The National Society of Horticulture of France and listed in their ‘Guide to the Rose Gardens of Europe’.

This garden is considered to be one of the finest private gardens in Scotland.

“Carolside is a profoundly personal garden. Rose has put so much of herself into it and the result is a very intimate garden with an air of romance and beauty, leaving the viewer with an enduring connection to it and a lasting memory”

This is what Rose can bring to her designs for a client, a painters eye for colour and detailed planting.

“Her passion for plants is evident, her eye for colour and detail is seen round every corner of a garden” It is this lifetime knowledge of plants, artistic eye and natural feel for design that enables her to create a garden which relates to the surrounding landscape and its history, always having regard for the client’s wishes.

“The way you blend and combine colour is so extraordinary, so soft and beautiful, the lines of design, the perspectives, the way you build height in the Borders combined with your sensibility for toning and contrast in colour makes your garden literally my favourite I’ve ever been in. Like Jekyll, you are an amazing plantswoman as well as a true artist”.

“I came away in admiration of your skill but above all 'your eye', a skill which many, many gardeners do not have”.

Visitor

"I found your garden extraordinary. The visual depth of the borders and the contrasting shapes, colours and textures were almost tropically luxurious. As I remarked at the time, the change in feeling as we passed through the arches in the hedges from one area to the next was quite palpable. I think your garden is a remarkable achievement".
